Smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing injuries and fire deaths. Here are some smoke alarm safety tips.

  • Test all smoke alarms at least once a month. Press the test button to be sure the alarm is working.
  • Replace smoke alarm batteries every 6 months
  • Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old.

Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Carbon monoxide is an odorless, tasteless, invisible gas that can cause significant illness and potentially death. Here are some examples of utilities that can put off carbon monoxide:

  • Gas hot water heaters
  • Gas stove
  • Gas furnace
  • Vehicles

When these are not properly maintained and ventilated, they can emit carbon monoxide. Only a carbon monoxide detector can warn you of dangerous levels of this deadly gas. For more tips or information contact our fire prevention officer Lieutenant Flora or call the station at (614) 873-8990 ext 2.
